The building typology I am researching is a government building, more specifically police stations. I am searching this building typology due to NYC lack of state of the art NYPD facilities. The specialty of this building would be a brand new green design for the NYPD as well as a new training facility and new prisoner holding. My goals for working with this building type are to learn not only about the NYPD or other police department needs but learn about other building types that are incorporated into a police station. For example, a police station can have recreation spaces, fitness spaces, education spaces etc. I will be able to research these and design smaller versions of them into my police station. The program elements that I see included at this point into my building include reception areas, administrative space, a detectives’ bureau, personnel areas, equipment storage, a muster room, prisoner holding, evidence room, interrogation rooms, training facility, recreation facility, and gun range.
